Message from the Deputy Director

From Maura Hagan, NCAR Deputy Director

In thinking about how to welcome you to the NCAR Directorate web pages, it seems appropriate to share and reflect on the past 50 years of NCAR history. This recent milestone could not have happened without the foresight of some of the nation’s leading scientists and ongoing support from the U.S. and international university communities. NCAR’s High Altitude Observatory, my scientific home, marked its 70th anniversary, even as NCAR reached 50. NCAR laboratories, programs and observatory boast a wealth of accomplishments, having a hand in supporting as well as initiating a broad range of scientific advances that span the breadth of solar, solar-terrestrial, and Earth-systems science.

Partnerships within the science community are critical components to these and future successes. As we look forward, opportunities to expand on existing partnerships and to explore new collaborations will be essential components of our broad scientific mission. Not least of these will be ongoing support for graduate and post-doctoral fellows, which continues to be a strong focus. Descriptions and details of our current research efforts, partnerships, and educational and professional opportunities can be found within the pages of the NCAR web site. I invite to you explore and learn more about our community and the scientific endeavors in which we are engaged.
