The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) invites you to join us for our Explorer Series. Get an inside look at the advances our scientists are making in areas of study that stretch from Earth’s oceans, forests, and cities up through the layers of the atmosphere to the scorching swirls of plasma on the Sun. Recommended ages 12+.

What's with the weird weather?
Dr. Kevin Trenberth from the National Center for Atmospheric Research will explore the role of El Niño, climate change, and other influences on the weather and climate, and their relationship to the increasingly costly extreme weather events in the United States and around the world. Dr. Trenberth will explain how weather extremes such as record-breaking temperatures, drought, wildfires, and floods – including the 2013 Colorado floods – are linked, and what these events imply for the future.

Accessibility and Parking

The address for the event is 1850 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder, CO 80305. Directions and a map can be found on our website. We have ample parking at the Mesa Lab for all visitors. There will be a uniformed security officer near the building entrance (at the end of Table Mesa Drive) who will be able to answer questions about parking. The officer will guide drivers who have a disability parking plate or placard, or those with passengers who would have difficulty walking from the parking lot, to appropriate parking spaces or to the drop-off location.
