NSF NCAR

We don't just produce cutting-edge research. We enable others to do frontier research, too.

From its founding, NSF NCAR was meant to empower the atmospheric research community with the innovative tools necessary to tackle the most important scientific problems of the day. Not much has changed.

Today, NSF NCAR advances scientific breakthroughs by providing the research community with cutting-edge modeling, observational tools, and computing resources, as well as workforce development that prepares early career scientists and researchers to use artificial intelligence and other emerging tools that will shape scientific discovery into the future. NSF NCAR's researchers collaborate with their peers in academia, government, and the private sector to optimize our community resources to be as relevant and beneficial to society as possible.

Our experts also produce their own research. NSF NCAR staff are experts across a wide range of disciplines, including meteorologists, hydrologists, solar physicists, atmospheric chemists, machine learning scientists, oceanographers, cryospheric scientists, engineers, educators, and others. This range of expertise yields a broad range of research outcomes with real-world impact.  Learn more about our areas of research.
