We don't just produce world-class research. We enable others to do their best research, too.

From its founding, NCAR was meant to provide the atmospheric research community with the shared resources necessary to work on the most important scientific problems of the day. Not much has changed.

Today, NCAR provides scientists across the United States — and the globe — with a host of tools, from community models to research aircraft to supercomputers to workshops. NCAR's in-house scientists collaborate with their peers in academia, government, and the private sector to build, refine, and expand NCAR's community resources to be as relevant and useful as possible.

Our scientists also produce their own research, which helps lead the way in the Earth system sciences. Learn more about our areas of research.
