Why are some hurricanes able to intensify at an explosive pace? How can we improve forecasts of hurricane track and size? What is the most effective way to communicate hurricane risk to the vulnerable public? How will hurricanes change as the climate continues to warm?

NCAR scientists are involved in answering all these questions and more. They study everything from building infrastructure that is more resilient in the face of monster storms to how to improve the code of advanced computer models to better capture the physics of hurricane formation and evolution.
