At NSF NCAR, we're serious about our science, which means we're equally serious about fairness and access to scientific opportunities.
That's because we understand that a broad range of perspectives is critical for finding solutions to the most difficult scientific problems. We also understand that to recruit and retain staff members from all communities, including those traditionally underrepresented in our science, we need to foster a workplace that is welcoming and supportive of everyone, no matter their identity.
Access and engagement efforts at our organization span both NSF NCAR and UCAR, which manages the national center on behalf of the U.S. National Science Foundation. The UCAR Office of Access, Culture, and Opportunity, works to ensure our overall culture allows all employees to feel safe, respected, and empowered to do their best work, and they develop and implement our organization’s broad engagement policies and procedures.
The NSF NCAR CORE Office supports and supplements UCAR-level initiatives with an emphasis on engaging minority-serving institutions (MSIs) to expand scientific efforts and capacity in Earth system science. Our team is committed to ensuring that MSI faculty and students have access to NSF NCAR facilities and instruments as well as helping build research capacity at their home institutions. The NSF NCAR CORE Office also focuses on initiatives that support culture, collaboration, and partnerships across NSF NCAR labs.
